Florence + the Machine is a British duo, composed of singer Florence Welch and keyboardist Isabella "Machine" Summers, born in London in 2007. The duo surrounds themselves, in their recordings, with a crowd of excellent musicians, such as among others guitarist Robert Ackroyd, bassist Mark Saunders and drummer Christopher Lloyd Hayden. The first album, heavily sponsored by the British BBC, is "Lungs", from 2009, and immediately presents a very original sound between baroque pop, soul and rock. Preceded by a series of increasingly successful singles, including "Kiss with a fist" and "You’ve got the love", the album achieved 5 platinum records in the UK alone for over 1,400,000 copies sold.
