Cattolica (RN)
The Acquario di Cattolica is located inside buildings dating back to the 1930s and designed by the architect Clemente Busiri Vici, whose shapes recall a naval fleet. The structure was originally conceived as a marine colony to house the children of Italians residing abroad. The careful conservative restoration, completed in June 2000, under the aegis of the Superintendence for Environmental and Architectural Heritage, has renovated the buildings and enhanced the entire area, rich in history and maritime traditions.
The Aquarium, the largest in the Adriatic, covers an area of 110,000 square meters, overlooking the sea, perfectly integrated into the urban fabric of Cattolica and has large green spaces available, freely usable as a public park (over 49,000 meters squares). It houses about 3,000 specimens of 400 different species, in over 100 display tanks.
