From June 17th to September 4th 2022, Verona
The Arena di Verona is considered the world's largest open air opera theatre: in fact, the Roman amphitheatre, built in the 1st century A.D., has a seating capacity of 13.500 persons and hosts approximately 500.000 spectators each season.
It's historic Opera Festival was founded on August 10, 1913, the date on wich an opera was staged in the amphitheatre for the first time, to mark the centenary of Giuseppe Verdi's birth: the choice fell on Aida, wich became the symbol and most performed title of the Festival. Since then, the Arena's stage has hosted the most famous names an its grandiose sets have been designed by the world's most renowned artists. In 2013 the Fondazione Arena celebrated the first 100 years of the Opera Festival, an event that enriched Italian and international culture with a new way of staging shows, contributing to make a Verona one of the world's music capitals. The Arena, both a monument and a theatre, is therefore a symbol of Verona, one of the main cities of Italy's Veneto region and famous worldwide thanks also the immortal story of the Shakespearean lovers Romeo and Juliet.
The calendar of the 100th edition of the Opera Festival will be richer than ever: Aida, Carmen, Barber of Seville, Rigoletto, Carmen, La Traviata, Nabucco, Roberto Bolle and Friends, Juan Diego Florez in Opera, Tosca, Placido Domingo, Madama Butterfly , Jonas Kaufmann in Opera and La Scala in the Arena
