Dear friends, take note: Alpine Ski World Championships arrive to Cortina d'Ampezzo, from 7 to 21 February 2021 and it will be the first international winter sports event, during Covid-19 emergency.
And the opening of the ticket pre-sale started on October 19!
The queen of the Dolomites will host the great sporting event, offering fans an exciting international ski show. More than 600 athletes, coming from 70 different nations, will be the protagonists of the snowy slopes and will fac each other in the shade of the Tofane, to win the 13 world titles, male and female, up for grabs: downhill, superG, giant, slalom, combined alpine, individual and team parallel. The competitions in these seven disciplines will be watched by millions of fans worldwide.
"It’s hard to give numbers, let’s say that, for now, compared to the 120,000 spectators that we expected in the 15 days before the Covid, the maximum capacity available will be about half: 50-60,000 people overall, that is 5,000 in the days of maximum frequency" said the CEO of Cortina 2021, Valerio Giacobbi, on 9 September, talking about the situation of "Cortina 2021: ciak, si scia!", during the Day dedicated to World Cup partners and media, aimed at promoting the Queen of the Dolomites and ideally launching the next winter season.
The luckiest fans will be welcomed in the hospitality areas and will watch the races from the stands of Rumerlo and Col Duscié, In addition to the public and athletes, there will be about 6,000 people in Cortina, including professionals, volunteers, technicians, athletic trainers, skimen and managers. While most of them will watch it on TV or online. Fans can also be updated with all the news about the event through the official app of the event.
It will be a world-wide event hosted in the Dolomites, universally recognized as the most beautiful mountains in the world, included among the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO on 26 June 2009. Being an asset of the World Heritage Site involves a dual function: tourism, cultural, scientific and landscape protection for future generations.
And it is precisely on these concepts that Cortina wants to focus its efforts in developing the project. The link with the mountains, sport and Italian tradition are the fundamental cornerstones that will convey the attention of everyone on the Dolomite environment and its territory, inhabited permanently by people who take care of its protection.
Local, national and international companies have been involved to work together, in order to protect the environment in the best way possible and to host the sports event safely. They projected the logistics and fixed the slopes and infrastructure and renewed hospitality, implementing new technologies and projects with low environmental impact. This way they are leaving a good legacy for new generations: a territory redeveloped, in a way that is respectful of the tradition and of the environment.
