April 18th - May 15th - June 4th 2021, Lago Maggiore
The Borromean Islands have always been visited by artists, writers and musicians and in nineteenth century became part of the Grand Tour. Belonging to the Borromeo family, Isola Bella and Isola Madre are an unmissable destination for lovers of art and botany.
The first step is Isola Madre, the largest and most exotic of the Borromean Islands. Its botanical garden, thanks to a particular microclimate, hosts plants from all over the world. At the center of the garden stands the sixteenth-century Palazzo Borromeo which today retains prestigious furnishings and a collection of period puppet theatres and marionettes made by the famous set designer of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Alessandro Sanquirico.
At lunch you can enjoy typical Piedmontese dishes at restaurant La Piratera.
In the afternoon visit of Isola Bella which, with its terraces, represents the icon of Lake Maggiore.
A fascinating journey through the rooms of the Baroque Palace among which stands out the Gallery with 130 paintings by important artists. On the lower floor curious caves, covered with stucco and pebbles, were built to amaze and give refreshment to the guests of the Palace. Famous in the world is the Italian baroque garden with the majestic Teatro Massimo adorned by statues, fountains and obelisks.
The visit ends in the ancient village of the island, in Vicolo del Fornello with its Made in Italy boutiques.
