Jason Kay,born in 1969 in London, son of a jazz singer; in 1986 he recorded a hip-hop single, and proposed himself as a singer/break-dancer. In 1992 he founded Jamiroquai, a group whose "white" funk, inspired by Gil Scott-Heron and Stevie Wonder, conquered the public. The frontman of the group is joined by keyboardist Toby Smith, co-author of many pieces in the early years of the band's life, bassist Stuart Zender, drummer Nick Van Gelder, guitarist Simon Bartholomew and Wallis Buchanan, virtuoso of the characteristic Australian didgeridoo. After the growing success of the first singles, the debut album entered the British charts at number one.
