Onika Tanya Maraj, was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago on December 8, 1984. She grew up in Queens, New York, where she studied acting at the famous LaGuardia school. Her interest, however, turned to music and she made a few demos, managing to create some credibility for herself in the underground circuit. She will not remain unknown to the general public for long, however, thanks to a record deal with Lil Wayne's Young Money that exposes her to numerous artists in the hip hop and r&b area.
